2012 Calaveras Rosa
Back in 1866, two miners digging a shaft - not far from Tanner Vineyard near Angels Camp - found a human skull buried deep in what is known as the Pliocene layer - which would make said skull over a million years old. This caused quite a stir among the great acheological minds of the day. Later, it turned out the skull was placed as a joke, and is only 1,000 years old.
This infamous hoax has almost nothing to do with this wine, we just wanted to tell you a fun story, and to make a wine called Calaveras Rosa - the Pink Skull.
