A wine that will leave you mostly dead! A Rioja-style blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha

91 points! "It may just be that this 84% Tempranillo blend (plus 12% Graciano, 4% Garnacha) needs some more time in bottle to develop, in which case it will only get better. In the meantime it has undeniable juicy, red fruit, grippy tannins that are just starting to mellow and is overall a very savory and delicious wine. Fermented as a field blend, The Spaniard mingled for months in all-new French oak and would go gangbusters with lamb or other red meats." - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast magazine

Made at Twisted Oak by Winemakers of Unusual Size, this swashbuckling Calaveras blend is so big you’ll need six fingers to hold the bottle. It’s inconceivable that one could resist these aromas and flavors as big as Fezzik himself. Share it with your special Buttercup, a Gentle Giant, or the entire Kingdom... as you wish.

Tasting Notes
We have quite a hodgepodge of tasting notes for The Spaniard, so rather than wrap a narrative of questionable cleverness around them, we’re just going to throw them right at you: “Cherry Redcurrant Plum bomb” “Cedar cherry berry” “Great gams” (gams?) “Fruitalicious” “Way better than beer” “A great [Italian] red” (that was one confused taster, and we won’t repeat the inappropriate ethnic characterization that rhymes with Winnebago.) Our favorite: “It’s turtles all the way down!” OK, so that last one is maybe too hip for the room (you can read about it on Wikipedia) - we’re pretty sure he was referring to the long finish.

Food Pairing Notes
Meat! If you don't ever drink this with lamb, you're not livin' right!! Well-marbled beef by itself, or lean cuts of beef with rich sauces. How about a Spanish Paprika rubbed Ribeye topped with Applewood smoked bacon and Cabrale Spanish Blue? How about it?

The Spaniard continues to me one of my faves! We shared with the management of our favorite local wine bar (we are in AZ so they don't get your wine) and they loved it as well. In fact they have asked me to order some for them for their personal cellar. Keep up the good work.

This wine is fantastic. Easily one of the best reds that I've ever had. A flavorful, balanced wine that needs to apart of any wine fridge. The only problem is that I can't order bigger bottles!
