Here is the 2017 Lineup!
Saturday May 27th: Jerry Douglas presents The Earls of Leicester!
The Earls of Leicester pay homage to the foundational music of Lester Flatt & Earls Scruggs and their band Foggy Mountain Boys. Consisting of Jerry Douglas on dobro, Shawn Camp on vocals and guitar, Charlie Cushman on banjo, and Johnny Warren on fiddle, the Grammy award winners and 2016 IBMA Entertainers of the Year conjure images of Flatt & Scruggs at their powerful peak with their tight harmonies and electrifying instrumental showmanship.
We're freakin' delighted to present these world-class artists on our little hilltop, including the legendary Jerry Douglas, arguably the best dobro player on the planet! But don't stop there - every one of these musicians is at the top of their games and has earned the recognition of their peers!
Saturday June 24th: Front Country!
An acoustic band born in the land of tech innovation, Front Country was never going to be accepted as an authentic American roots band out of the gate. Cutting their teeth in progressive bluegrass jams in San Francisco’s Mission District and rehearsing in the East Bay, they learned to play roots music their own way, with the tools they had on hand. A mandolinist with a degree in composition and classical guitar. A guitarist trained in rock and world music. A bassist equally versed in jazz and bluegrass. A violinist with technique that could seamlessly hop between honky tonk and electropop. A female lead singer with grit and soul that was also a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. In a wood-paneled country dive bar in the shadow of the San Francisco skyline, Front Country forged a sound hell bent on merging the musical past with the future.
What can you say about a band whose influences include “Bill Monroe, Paul Simon, Prince, and King Crimson”? Progressive bluegrass straight out of Nashville by way of San Francisco!
Saturday July 8th: The Pine Leaf Boys!
Louisiana's finest, four-time Grammy-Nominated, world-renown Pine Leaf Boys have made a name for presenting their own inimitable brand of Louisiana music with youthful exuberance. Hailing from the southwest Louisiana, the Pine Leaf Boys, known for their wild shows and thoughtful arrangements, have breathed new life into Louisiana music, reviving ancient songs and bringing them to the bandstand. Being described in the New York Times as, "... the link that connects the young and the old generations," and, "the best new, energetic, and fun Cajun band in a very long time," the Pine Leaf Boys play the old fashion dance hall standards while making a priority to bring many of the more obscure songs of past masters into their repertoire and play them with gusto.
Rockin' old-school Cajun music from deep south Louisiana! Four-time Grammy Nominees!
Saturday July 22nd: John Jorgenson Quintet!
Music virtuoso John Jorgenson, known for his blistering guitar licks and mastery of a broad musical palette, has earned a reputation as a world-class musician and guitarist who has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt, and Bob Dylan. In addition to acoustic and electric guitars, he is also regularly featured on the saxophone, clarinet, bouzouki, pedal steel, mandolin, vocals and has garnered recognition for contributing to numerous platinum-selling and GRAMMY-winning albums.
"John Jorgenson is a brilliant guitarist!" - Elton John
"If there was one guitar player I'd like to be, it would be John Jorgenson." - Brad Paisley
A huge crowd favorite when they last visited Twisted Oak! Smooth Gypsy Jazz in the style of Django Reinhart, and beyond!
Saturday August 12th: Sonny Landreth!
When Sonny Landreth was 16, he began experimenting with the slide, “much to the horror of my family,” he chuckles. "I didn’t have anybody to teach me, so I had to find my own way with playing it,” Landreth recalls. He made his first slide, one he still uses: “I got a handlebar from a bike and got a hacksaw and cut myself a little slide. I actually used it on my new album on the acoustic side; I still favor it for the tone."
"Sonny Landreth is probably the most underestimated musician on the planet and also is probably one of the most advanced." - Eric Clapton
"The best slide guitar player in the world” - Marc Knopfler
And you get to see him play at Twisted Oak!
