Rarezitas Torcidas (rah-ruh-ZEE-tas Tor-SEE-das), [SP] n pl., 1. literally, Twisted Little Freaks, 2. A bunch of gnarly Spanish clone Grenache vines (Spain is the new France) growing on a hillside in Vallecito that produce this killer combination of bright fragrance and bold fruit that you are currently drooling all over the table waiting to taste... er, here's a towel.

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes
You remember when you were a little kid, and there was this little store round the corner that had a nice man behind the counter who would sell you a big bag of the best candy for a nickel? We don’t either, no one is that old! But if we were that old, this wine might just remind us a little of those days, with aromas of raspberries and blueberries, clove and nutmeg; and flavors of zingy raspberry and blackberries - maybe even that funny plum candy you used to think was yucky - finishing with impressions of 10W30 oil. Whoops, I guess we wandered into the hardware department, but I think you get the idea...

Vineyard Notes
89% Grenache from our own estate vineyards on Red Hill, 11% Petite Sirah from the Tanner Vineyard across the street

Food Pairing Notes
Tapas! - spicy sausages and salamis - ham - game - pot roast - linguica - sweet fruit sauces - even lamb and goat!

Last month we opened (& decanted per its age) a lovely 1995 Opus Cab to share with friends -- different varietal sure, but as nice as it was we all agreed that we'd rather be drinking the Torcido (which we opened when the Opus ran out). It's your usual yummy grenache--good job!

I could use many stereotypical terms, but let's get down to basics: this wine is YUMMY! Excellent with food, wonderful by itself, just truly a great wine that I'd recommend wholeheartedly.

So surprised at how much we enjoyed this one...better than most of my expensive grenaches!
