"Tobacco and earth noise. Some shroom? Good cherry notes nice acids like the fruit. Optimistic wine despite River of Skulls name." - Bill Daley, Chicago Tribune, via Twitter, Wine Bloggers Conference 2009

"07 Twisted Oak River of Skulls: Very full dark red berry and spice. Potent but supple at the same time (thnx to the Syrah portion)" - Joe Roberts, 1WineDude, via Twitter, Wine Bloggers Conference 2009

"Twisted Oak Winery. 07 River of Skulls 88% mourverdre/12% syrah. Ripe black cherries, smoke and the earth...love it!" - Kathleen Rake, Between the Vines, via Twitter, Wine Bloggers Conference 2009

"River of Skulls--spanish for Calaveras--this wine could walk a tightrope its got so much finesse and balance." - Lori Narlock, One Day in Wine Country, via Twitter, Wine Bloggers Conference 2009

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes
With a name like River of Skulls, you know it has to be good... An ankle bone of cherries is connected to the shin bone of raspberries, which connects to the knee bone of smoky vanilla. The knee bone is connected to the leg bone of Mourvedre’s natural tabacco character, which connects to the hip bone, back bone and neck bone of a nice long finish. Oh Dem Skulls!

Vineyard Notes
88% Monastrell (Spanish clone of Mourvedre) 12% Syrah, both from the Dalton Vineyards

IT TASTES REALLY GOOD!!!!!! How's that for a review?

Plus...... the River of Skulls T-Shirt is great when I'm out playing guitar with one of my bands or if I'm out riding through the hills on my motorcycles.

Nice full bodied wine, "smoky" mentioned by Cari is totally right, not too fruity and we paired with Labor Day BBQ Ribs! Spectacular pairing and it was a huge hit with the family.

For $35, two WELL worth the price of admission...

Had a chance to taste at the PAWS event this year (thanks for participating, you rock!) and it is yummy. OMG, you must drink this. And the bottle is awesome. Come on, you know you want to buy it for your sophisticated Halloween party.

An extraordinary wine. I loved it from the barrel and it looses nothing from the bottle. Sadly, when I received my wine club shipment, the cork in the Skulls bottle was leaking into the box and I was forced to drink it immediately. I also immediately replaced the bottle with a replacement for the cellar. Long live The Twisted Few!!There are no bad wines at Twisted Oak.

I love this wine!! We had a young french student living with us this summer. We sent her home with a bottle and the email from Paris was "this is a great wine"....and that from the french! Congrats!

Both the bottle and the wine are GREAT!! We took it to a wine dinner in Napa. Everyone loved it...a little too much. I did not get enough of the fab stuff. I need MORE!!!!
